Description

Trewern is a large farmhouse built in a style that features quasi-rubble masonry, with a low rendered porch on the north side that is likely made of brick and painted white. The building has a slate roof with tile ridges, and the newer part has a taller triple roof compared to the original house. Yellow brick chimneys are located at both ends and in the middle.

The north elevation of the original range has three windows, featuring 12-pane horizontally sliding sash windows on the upper level and a single 16-pane sash window below. There is a low modern lean-to porch on the left side.

The south elevation, designed in the 19th century to serve as the front, is the most prominent feature of the farmhouse. It consists of three gables, with a datestone in the central gable that reads 'Rebuilt by / William and Mary Morris / 1867'. The left and center gables have a three-window arrangement with vertically aligned 16-pane sash windows and a central semi-glazed main door. The windows have stone sills and timber lintels, and the left ground storey window is set in a small canted bay. The doorway is framed by a timber porch with brick footings, a slate roof, and lattice panels. The right gable features two similar upper windows positioned lower, with the outline of a bricked-up attic window above and a small window below. There is one similar window on the east elevation and two on the west elevation. Most of the sashes are hornless, although several have been restored with horns.

Inside, the hallway at the 19th-century entrance has straight stairs on one side. The stairs in the central unit of the earlier north range are now secondary. A large lateral farmhouse chimney is located in the west unit, along with stop-chamfered main beams and rough joists. There is a boxed-in oven believed to still exist in the east unit.
