Gatepiers, wall and railings to Montgomery Presbyterian Church

The gatepiers, wall, and railings at Montgomery Presbyterian Church are notable features of the site. The gatepiers are flanked by walls and topped with iron railings. Each pier has a plain plinth and a monolith above, which features plain stopped chamfers at the angles of the shaft and a recessed neck beneath a cross-gabled top. The walls are constructed from square tooled blocks, serving as retaining walls, and have chamfered ashlar coping that supports ornate cast-iron railings. These railings have leaf motifs at the bottom and scroll designs at the top of every alternate upright, with Gothic finials positioned above the top rail, alternating in height and size. The railings terminate against a stone pier on the left and a short length of rubble wall on the right. There are matching tall double gates that repeat the same design motif across two levels, featuring quatrefoils on the bottom and mid-rail. The piers also support an iron overthrow adorned with three wrought-iron curved rails, to which cast-iron stars are attached.
