Description

The Old Rectory is a two-storey building dating from the 18th century. It has a symmetrical design to its front facade, originally consisting of four bays, with a single bay added to the east. The building is characterised by a massing of low-pitched hipped roofs. The exterior is rendered and painted white, with four brick stacks positioned asymmetrically and wide boarded eaves. A ground floor verandah, covered by a lean-to roof formed by an iron arcade with circular spandrels, is located in front of the recessed central two bays. The windows are wide sashes, some with up to 24 panes, and are set beneath moulded sandstone hoodmoulds, with sandstone sills. A 20th-century panelled door with a decorative overlight is in the eastern bay of the front, and glazed doors lead into the house from the verandah. The west end of the building has a two-window range, with sashes similar to those elsewhere, though a canted bay window is present on the south side of the ground floor. To the rear, on the south side, is a tall, square block with a pyramidal hipped roof, including an attic storey and a small lean-to on its west side. A canted bay window is situated on the west side of the rear elevation. Brick and masonry ranges extend to the east. The interior of the building was not accessible at the time of inspection.
