Description
The south tower in the inner front garden, along with the garden wall that runs to the southwest wing of the house, is a Grade II* listed structure. This circular tower is two storeys high and constructed of rubble sandstone, topped with a conical stone slate roof. The upper floor features a dovecote that contains ten tiers of nest boxes, although the floor is missing. At the base, there is a stone string at plinth level and two blocked two-light hollow chamfered stone windows.
The ground floor includes a depressed Tudor chamfered doorcase located at the garden corner. Access to the upper floor is provided by an independent walled dog-leg stair that leads from a Tudor-headed gate in the southern garden wall. The upper floor originally had a raking roof and features a similar chamfered stone doorcase at the top of the stair, complete with a label that has dropped out-turned ends above it.
Additionally, there is a rubble stone garden boundary wall that is approximately 1.8 meters high, extending from the tower to the corner of the southwest wing of the house. This wall includes a doorway adjacent to that wing.
