Description
The Groves, also known as Grove Farm, is a building with a T-shaped plan that dates back to the earlier 18th century. The front is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a slate roof featuring stone copings and kneelers, along with brick chimneys. The structure has a stone plinth and stone quoins, presenting a symmetrical two-storey elevation with five windows and a central string course. There are signs of rebuilding at the eaves level. The windows are 19th-century four-pane sashes.
The rear range, facing the farmyard, is timber-framed with tall rectangular panels and brick infill from the 18th century and later, set on a red sandstone plinth. There is an entrance and porch to the left, with irregularly-placed 19th-century windows. The gabled end elevation features timber framing with diagonal braces and 19th-century extensions. The garden elevation includes a 20th-century conservatory extension but retains camber-headed small pane casements on the first floor.
During the 1994 resurvey, the interior was not accessible, but it was noted to have a dog-leg stair with twisted balusters.
