Description
The former Plas Power Colliery Heapstead is made of dressed sandstone, with some areas patched in brick, and features timber baulks and iron fixings. It is shaped like an 'L', extending from the northeast corner of the eastern winding engine house to the north side of the western winding engine house. The heapstead stands approximately 6 to 8 meters high and has a strong batter from the bottom to the top. You can see lines of putlog holes where screens for sizing coal were once attached to the wall. Additionally, there is a stone-lined tunnel that enters the heapstead from an arch on the north side, which would have previously connected to the shaft.
