Description

Manley Hall is a 17th-century building featuring pebbledash, timber-framing, sandstone, a slate roof, and red brick chimneys. The garden front has two projecting gabled wings that are pebbledashed, flanking a recessed bay with sandstone rubble at the ground floor and timber framing in squarish panels with brick infill above. All windows appear to have been reset and are multipaned cast-iron casements with Gothick style intersecting pointed heads. The left-hand return has a large stone stack with diagonally-set late 19th-century brick chimneys. The rear elevation features a series of gabled bays and some single-storey extensions from various phases of development. To the left, there is a late 19th-century Tudor-Gothic Revival doorway made of red sandstone, and a late 19th-century mullioned and transomed stair window to the right.

Some elements of the three-unit 17th-century plan are still visible; the rear entrance leads to a late 19th-century corridor with a relocated stair that has been substantially restored. This stair retains a heavy newel with strapwork designs and a pointed finial. The corridor provides access to the original ground floor rooms, one of which has panelling of late 17th-century character that may have been reset. Some ceilings feature chamfered and stopped beams, and timber framing is visible in some walls, with partially exposed roof timbers visible upstairs. An attached 19th-century stable range has been converted for residential use.
