Description
This is a T-shaped house with adjoining farm buildings, dating from the 18th century. The house is constructed of rubble stone with tile hanging to the upper storey, all set beneath slate roofs. It features a short cross-wing with a large stone stack to the left end, the front entrance facing west. The main range extends at right angles to the right. Replacement windows are found in original openings, and are 2-light wooden casements with segmental heads. A late 20th-century planked door now occupies the front entrance. The north side of the main range has a single window, replacing an earlier timber mullioned window, and the gable end facing the road features windows to both storeys. The south elevation has two ground-floor windows, the left-hand one with a small hoodmould. The rear gable end (east) is not tile-hung and includes French doors replacing a former window, and a window in the gable itself. To the left of the front entrance is a small, lower-roofed unit, a former wash-room with a rendered front and a window.
Adjoining the wash-room is a range of farm buildings. These buildings are weather-boarded on a stone plinth, with a corrugated iron roof, some sections of which are missing. There are two doorways with split doors; the right-hand door has a segmental head and leads to a feeding passage. A stone bay to the left connects to a stone range, probably older, which has higher gables but now lacks a roof. The rear of the weather-boarded section has a loft hatch and a planked door leading to a passage.
Inside the main house, a hall is located to the rear and the kitchen to the front, facing the road. The entrance, in the cross-wing, opens into a lobby, with a doorway to the right leading to the hall. The hall has a large fireplace with a slightly chamfered timber lintel, and the ceiling displays two deeply chamfered cross-beams with stepped stops. A replaced staircase is situated in the southwest corner. A box-framed partition separates the hall from former outer rooms, which are now used as a kitchen. The kitchen ceiling has one cross-beam, and there is evidence of the former partition between the outer rooms; the north room was used as a pantry until the late 20th century, featuring a quarry-tiled floor. The former wash-room has a fireplace with a domed bake-oven.
The adjoining farm range is three-bay, with a central feeding passage which retains the remains of low side walls that once supported lofts. It features large tie beam trusses and a loft doorway to the north, with a slight chamfer to the head.
