Description

Smithfield House is a mid to late 17th century main house that has undergone later alterations. It stands three storeys tall, constructed of handmade red brick with red sandstone quoins and sandstone facing at the base of the street facade and one gable end. The building features stone-shaped kneelers and gable coping, topped with a later slate roof that has terracotta ridge tiles and a rebuilt brick stack. A painted stone porch with a moulded pediment supported by consoles leads to a later door.

On the ground and first floors, there are three later three-light casement windows with brick flat arches, while the upper storey has three two-light casements. To the right, there is a red brick extension with a slate roof and terracotta ridge tiles, which includes a two-light casement window on the ground floor. The left return gable wall has sandstone facing up to the eaves level and features a single 20th-century uPVC window. At the rear, there is a two-storey brick extension with a slate roof.

The interior was not accessible during the re-survey in March 1996.
