Description

The Tomb of Elihu Yale, located west of the Church of St Giles, is a plain tomb chest featuring angle pilasters and a shallow raking slab, set on a raised base. The inscription notes that "Elihu Yale esq. was buried the twenty second of July the year of our lord 1721." Additionally, a rhyme on the tomb provides details of his life: "Born in America, in Europe bred, in Africa travelled and Asia wed, where long he lived and thriv'd; in London dead." Elihu Yale resided at Plas Grono in the parish of Wrexham for several years towards the end of his life.
