Description
St. Giles' Churchyard Gates are a notable example of wrought ironwork. The gates feature a central arched double gate flanked by shorter arched side gates. Each gate is supported by hollow square section wrought iron piers, which are richly decorated with scrolled overthrows that include sprays of leaves and flowers. The outer piers are made of rusticated stone and topped with urn finials. Quadrants with overthrows in a similar style connect the gates across College and Temple Rows, and these were likely added in 1821. Additionally, plain cast iron railings on a low plinth wall enclose the churchyard to the north and east, which were established between 1807 and 1808.
