Description
The Trustee Savings Bank is a building constructed from red sandstone ashlar, topped with a slate mansard roof. It stands three storeys high with attics, featuring an entrance located at the angle of the building, which is accentuated by a canted tower that is corbelled out above it.
The façade has a two-window range on each side. The lower openings are designed with segmentally arched heads that include keystones, and these are connected by a continuous string course. Above the ground floor, there is a coved string course, along with sill bands, continuous hood moulds that incorporate pediments over the windows, and pilasters that enhance the articulation of the upper storeys.
The windows on the upper levels are two-light, mullioned and transomed, and similar windows are found in the corner tower. This tower features round arched windows with pedimented heads in its upper stage and is topped with a cupola roof that includes a fleche. The building also has pedimented dormer windows that are recessed behind a parapet.
Additionally, there is a two-storey wing facing Church Street, which is in a similar but plainer style and may be an addition to the original structure. The building includes end wall and axial stacks.
