Description
37 High Street is an 18th-century building, originally a two-story structure with an attic, featuring a four-window front. In the 19th century, shop fronts were added to the lower floor. The original building was constructed of brick with a slate roof, and was characterised by moulded stone architraves with entablatures to the upper windows, stone quoins, and a stone cornice. The present front wall is a replica, built using brick and concrete dressings, with the lower storey built forward. The rear features two gabled wings which have been substantially rebuilt; however, traces of original timber framing are visible in the west wing, as are fragments of framing within the frontage range itself.
