Description
Blackhurst Farmhouse is a 2½-storey house with three windows, built from hand-moulded brick in a chequerwork Flemish bond, typical of 19th century houses in the area. The slate roof features wide eaves that are boarded at the front and has a dentil eaves course, along with three brick stacks. The central entrance is highlighted by a doorcase with Tuscan pilasters and features double half-glazed panel doors. Above the entrance, there is a tablet displaying the Hanmer crest in relief. The windows are set under segmental heads and consist of 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes, except for a mid-20th century inserted canted bay window on the lower left, which has a steel-framed three-light casement.
On the left gable end, there is a 12-pane sash window on the lower left similar to the front, a two-light steel-framed casement on the upper left, and a two-light attic window on the right. The right gable end has inserted French doors on the left side, a two-light casement window on the right under a segmental head, and an attic casement on the left side.
At the rear, there is a lower two-storey wing offset to the right, constructed of brick with a slate roof featuring a dentil eaves course and an end brick stack. On the left side of this wing, there is an L-plan lean-to that connects with both the wing and the main house, topped with a grouted slate roof. This lean-to has two-light and three-light windows against the main range and was formerly open-fronted but now includes an inserted door and window. Another lean-to is attached to the gable end of the rear wing. The opposite side of the rear wing, which faces the farmyard, has a two-light segmental-headed window on the lower left and a four-pane sash window on the right. In the upper storey, there is a two-light window on the left and an inserted or enlarged three-light window on the right. The property has not been inspected.
