Description

Bryn Coed is a two-storey building constructed from Ruabon type purple-red brick, featuring a hipped slate roof with yellow clayware ridges and a timber dentilled eaves cornice. The structure has three bays arranged in a U-plan, with the end bays set forward. An L-shaped service wing was added later on the east side, creating a third front wing. The front angles of the two main wings are accentuated with narrow stone quoins in the brickwork and 12-paned sash windows, with the window boxes positioned at the front.

The recessed central bay includes a single-storey entrance block that spans between the wings, featuring a central six-panelled door with a cross-glazed overlight, all set within an eared limestone frame. Above the door is a swept pediment topped with a ball finial. There are nine-paned sashes on either side of the entrance. The first floor of the recessed bay has a central keyed oculus and is flanked by 8-paned sashes. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the wings, and there is a door on the west return end. The service wing, which is in a similar but simpler style, has a recessed bay and a hipped forward wing, with a lean-to positioned in front of the recessed section. The wings extend to the rear as two-storey bays with hipped slate roofs, and in the recessed bay, there is a sun lounge with a central 12-pane sash window flanked by oculi on the first floor.

Inside, the front door opens to a lobby with a visitor's card on the right. The inner door leads to a large circulation hallway, where the balustered principal stair is set transversely against the back wall. The main reception rooms are located to the south.
