Description
The Ward Monument, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure. It is an open chest made of painted sandstone, featuring wide cusped arches and hollow spandrels on each side. The monument is set on a base and has slight buttresses at the corners. Inside, there is a ridged hog-back tomb that is inscribed on the top with the names Thomas Edward Ward, who died in 1854, Edward Lloyd, Harriet, and John Ward Dicken, which is carved on the capstone. The entire monument is placed on a plinth and is surrounded by bold cast iron railings that are cross-laced and cusped at the top, complete with fleur terminals.
