Description
The Halton Former Mission Church is a Gothic style mission church constructed from corrugated iron, resting on rubble stone footing walls that are topped by a chamfered red brick course. The building features a nave and a raised chancel with a higher roof. At the west end, there is a large gabled porch. The roof, also made of corrugated iron, has enlarged rounded-ended bargeboards, and the nave roof includes two raised saddle ventilators. A tall crucifix finial is situated between the nave and chancel. The windows are designed with twin-pointed lights set in a square-headed frame beneath a Tudor label. The east end features a stepped three-light window, while the west end has a pyramidal-roofed louvred bellcote and a similar stepped window above the gabled porch with a finial. The entrance includes a depressed-arched doorway flanked by small, square-framed lancet windows, one of which has a letter-box; the boarded door is fitted with strap hinges.
Inside, the nave comprises five roof bays supported by angle-braced collar beam trusses, with a boarded soffit to the roof. The chancel, which is raised two steps, consists of one bay and features a tall chancel screen with cusped angle braces leading to a head rail. Most of the fittings have been removed.
