Description
The Lodge is a house built of red brick in an English Garden wall bond, with a slate roof. The main front block was constructed over three storeys and has three bays, featuring a central entrance leading to a stair hall, with a two-storey service wing to the rear and wide wings to the sides. The front elevation includes a narrow central bay with a stone Doric portico, featuring a plain entablature and mutule cornice. The central entrance is a six-panelled door with a diamond-pattern timber overlight and glazed side screens. The side wings are well-proportioned and house 12-paned tripartite sashes on the ground floor, protected by segmental brick arches, with 16-paned sashes to the first floor, and 9-paned sashes at the second floor level. Upper floor windows have stone wedge lintels and stone sills. Timber pediments and unshaped modillion brackets are a prominent feature. A two-storey canted bay, running the full width of the front block, has been added to the east end, incorporating a plat band and sash windows in a similar style. The rear wing contains a six-panelled door and timber three-light casement windows, connecting to a rear cross service wing with a hipped roof and bracketed eaves. The gable ends of the front block are treated as pediments, with timber detailing. The house was not accessible for inspection in January 1998.
