Description

The stables at Marchwiel Hall are a U-shaped, two-storey structure with attics and haylofts, built from red brick and topped with renewed Welsh slate roofs. The northern range features a significant amount of greatly weathered red sandstone. A late 20th-century stone plaque on this elevation bears the inscription: "E W M/R I R BLESSED ARE THEY THAT TRUST IN GOD 1693," which is said to be a copy of an original inscription.

The northern range's southern elevation includes four similar windows and a late 19th-century cast-iron bracketed canopy, with a carriageway located at the extreme right. The eastern range has a projecting entrance bay with a gable facing the stable yard, featuring a tall wooden panelled door with a 10-paned arch-headed fanlight, and a wooden receiving door at the gable. The ground floor has several arch-headed multi-pane windows, along with a single cast-iron lozenge-patterned window, likely repurposed from an early to mid-19th-century estate building. At the attic level, several cast-iron oval tie-plates are visible. To the right, there are two wooden stable doors, and a later two-storey extension steps up to the right, which includes another cast-iron lozenge-patterned window. On the far left, there is a single-storey red brick extension, probably from the late 19th century, featuring a fishtail and decorative coloured slate roof.

Inside, both the northern and eastern ranges contain several loose boxes equipped with a good set of late 19th-century fixtures and fittings, including stanchions, dado-height panelling, and doors. The eastern range has a stone flagged floor, access to the attic via boxed-in wooden ladders, and a small heated tack room.
