Description
Sontley Bridge is a cast iron bridge featuring ashlar abutments. The abutments and retaining walls are tooled and rusticated, set on a shallow curve on each side. The bridge is supported by four longitudinal cast iron shallow curved braced ribs that carry a flat road bed. There are cast iron plates with raised panels that read 'Thos Penson County Surveyor', R & W Jones Ruabon Foundry 1845. The bridge also has cast iron railings in two tiers, adorned with segmentally arched decoration beneath the iron handrail.
