Description
The former stables at New Sontley Farm are a 19th-century building constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a hipped slate roof. The structure features heavily rusticated stone quoins, a moulded stone plinth, a cornice, and a low parapet. It is 7 bays wide, with the central 3 bays having pediments and a circular blind opening in the tympanum that project forward. Most of the original openings have been blocked, but there are several vertical ventilation slits on the right-hand return side. The left-hand return elevation has been significantly altered with later openings and additional vertical ventilation slits. The right-hand return elevation has also been modified, featuring diamond-patterned ventilators on the upper storey.
Attached to the rear is a later brick haybarn, which has 5 wide arches on its east elevation. The interior was not inspected during the 1996 survey but is reported to have been completely remodelled for its current agricultural use.
