Description

The Talbot Public House is a half-timbered building with a red plain tiled roof, dating from the 18th century. It is a three-storeyed polygonal corner structure with outer gables facing Hope Street and Queen Street, and a lower two-storeyed gabled range along Queen Street. The shop fronts have been renewed, but the terracotta panel above the doorway on the Queen Street elevation and several terracotta console brackets on the original fascias remain intact.

The first floor features wood mullioned and transomed oriel windows with leading and stained glass in the upper lights, along with a three-tier window providing light to the stairs on the Queen Street elevation. The upper storey juts out, showcasing three-light casement windows that have been renewed within the original openings, positioned beneath the three gables of the polygonal central range. There are longer bands of windows beneath the outer gables, and the gables are adorned with heavy bargeboards and finials.

The polygonal roof includes small dormer windows with leaded hoods on each face, culminating in a leaded cap with a finial. The end wall stacks are made of enriched brickwork, designed by Douglas and Fordham for production by J. C. Edwards of Ruabon. Additionally, there is a four-gabled range facing Queen Street, with an oriel window beneath each gable and overhanging tiled roofs featuring finials.
