Description
9 High Street is a three-storey building dating from the early 19th century. It features lined-out render over brick, a slate roof, and gable end brick stacks. The front has a three-window range with two shop fronts on the ground floor, situated on either side of a doorway leading to a passage. The shop front at No 9 retains its early 19th-century design, with a central entrance flanked by windows that are accentuated by panelled pilasters and heavy console brackets that support and interrupt the fascia. The upper windows were originally 12-pane sashes, although some of the glazing bars have been removed. The building has a simply moulded eaves cornice.
Inside, No 9 preserves some features from its early 19th-century shop, including a plaster dentilled cornice on the ceiling and a Palladian archway along the back wall. This archway likely once formed part of a display wall but now serves to divide the opened-out floor space.
