Description

The Dovecot at the Tower is a circular dovecot from the late Medieval period, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble, which was originally rendered, with a brick inner lining that contains 13 tiers of arched, plastered nesting holes. The dovecot currently has no roof, and a section of the wall on the former entrance side has collapsed. It appears that the thin rubble shell and the brick lining were built at the same time, suggesting that it may not date back to the Medieval period. However, it is possible that the existing structure is a remodelling of an earlier dovecot.
