Description

This is a former house that has been converted into an agricultural range, located immediately to the west of the farmhouse at Maes-y-Groes Farm. The building is constructed of stone, with roofs that are mostly covered in slate, although some areas have been repaired with corrugated sheeting.

The upper block of the building features a higher roof line and has two first-floor windows at different heights, along with two ground floor windows, some of which were originally sliding sashes. There is a doorway on the left side. The north gable end includes a small stone chimney and ventilator slits, with some signs of a blocked opening at the upper level, and a small lean-to structure. The rear of the central block has a large lateral projecting chimney with a tall stone stack, as well as a small store that can be accessed from within. To the south, there is a two-storey block with a lower roof line, which has a brick chimney at the gable end, a doorway on the right, and a single casement window on each floor to the left.

Inside, the central room features stop-chamfered beams and a lateral fireplace with a curved bressumer. There is a wooden stair in the northeast corner, a blocked doorway to the south, and a doorway leading to the rear store room. The north room has a large transverse beam and a small fireplace. Upstairs, the old roof timbers are still present, including early purlins and trusses. In the south bakehouse, which is open to the roof, there is a large chimney against the south gable. Additionally, high up in the gable of the main block, there is a fragment of medieval window tracery made of brownish sandstone. At the extreme south end of the building, there is an attached 20th-century open shed, which is not of special interest.
