Description

Hesp Alyn is a two-storey house built with whitewashed rubble and a slate roof, featuring brick chimneys. Originally designed as a two-unit house, it has a two-storey extension on the left that includes a bread oven. The front has three gabled dormers, each with 12-pane horizontally-sliding sash windows. The ground floor has a replaced window on the right, a 19th-century door, and an original door to the right of this, along with two more 12-pane horizontally-sliding sash windows to the right. The left side has a rounded bread oven topped with a slate roof, while the rear features a single-storey 20th-century extension.

The house has a two-unit plan with the original entry leading to the fireplace and an unequal division between the rear service rooms. The 19th-century kitchen on the left has a cambered bressummer over the now-blocked bread oven, with a door leading to a rear 20th-century bathroom. The front room also has a cambered bressummer over the fireplace, a chamfered and stopped spine beam, and a door leading to a pantry that includes a stud wall and a slate cold table. The back of the stair is visible and shows signs of alteration, indicating 19th-century repairs. There is a door leading to another service room, which features a later corner fireplace and simple stairs. The upper floor rooms connect directly to one another, and the room above the kitchen contains a cupboard with reused panelled doors and H hinges. The central room has a truncated chimney breast. All doors, except those in the 19th and 20th-century extensions, are plank doors with shaped strap hinges mounted on iron brackets, equipped with wooden or iron latches. The roof was not accessible during the 1995 survey, but it is reported that the principal beams were retained during repairs in 1990.
