Description
Trefrwd Farmhouse is an early 19th-century T-shaped farmhouse with attached agricultural ranges from the same period or slightly later, featuring additional elements from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble and has a medium-pitched slate roof, with a plain brick stack located off-centre. The layout consists of two inter-connecting ranges that form a rough T shape, appearing as an L when viewed from the farmyard, with the western range extending as a gabled projection at the rear. The main entrance is located on the northern section, designed with a lobby-entry plan. It features a Victorian part-glazed door with a cambered head that is slightly recessed, flanked by modern windows with cambered heads, the left window being larger. Additional modern sliding casement windows are positioned under the eaves.
The western range, which is perpendicular to the main section, has another entrance similar to the main one, accompanied by a window on the right, both sharing a wide cambered head. There is also a sliding casement window under the eaves to the right.
To the south of the farmhouse, there is a contemporary barn that is stepped up from the farmhouse. This barn is built of rubble and slate, featuring a single tier of ventilation slits. It has a raised off-centre entrance with a cambered head and a stable door, along with another stable door to the left at ground level, which has been rebuilt in brick above. A modern single-storey breeze-block lean-to is attached to the front of the barn.
At a right angle to the barn and stepped down, there is a second stable range from the mid-19th century, constructed in the same style. It has a central entrance on the north-facing side, flanked by windows similar to those previously mentioned, with an additional window under the eaves to the right. The eastern gable features a loading bay.
Adjoining the farmhouse to the east and stepped down is a second two-storey agricultural range from the mid-19th century, built of the same materials. To the left, there is an entrance with a loading bay above and flanking windows, one of which is shuttered and has ventilation slits. All windows and doors have cambered heads, with the ground floor entrance made of brick. To the right, there is a 20th-century cart entrance with boarded doors and a flat lintel.
