Description

This is a large U-shaped symmetrical agricultural range built in 1762, located to the west of Fron Hall. It features a central barn flanked by stables, constructed of rubble with freestone dressings beneath a medium-pitched slate roof that has moulded eaves cornices. The flanking ranges have shaped, moulded kneelers and coped gables.

The central barn has a large entrance with a segmental arched head, rusticated voussoirs, and a central keystone inscribed with "R W 1762." The upper half of the entrance has boarded doors, and there are flanking ventilation slits designed in a sham medieval military style. These slits consist of a central lozenge shape flanked by large cross-loops with trefoil heads, round bases, and crescent-shaped sides. Above these, there is a horizontal dumb-bell-type sham gun-loop.

The gabled wings feature pointed-arched window openings on the ground floors, with voussoirs similar to those of the entrance (the one on the right has been lowered). There are segmental-arched windows above these openings. On the inner face of the left (southwest) wing, there is a cambered entrance to the left, with voussoirs as previously described, along with another door and window to the right, topped by an open oculus. The doors are recessed and boarded.

The right (northeast) wing has a sequence of door, window, door, door, with the central window and door being modern. There is a brick stack on the left side. The left wing still contains contemporary wooden loose boxes.
