Description
The statue of a Roman soldier is located in the walled garden at Plas-yn-Iâl. This slightly above life-size stone statue stands on an octagonal base with two steps. The figure is identified as a Roman soldier by his tunic, shield, and helmet, featuring shoulder-length hair and a moustache. He wears a helmet adorned with a shapeless plume and a loosely attached toga, much of which lies on the ground. His shield, which is half-sitting on the ground and partially covered by the toga, is decorated with a low-relief lion's head and mane. The arms of the statue were separately carved and originally fixed with iron dowels, but both have since become detached.
