Description
Pont Cynwyd is a long causeway and bridge that elevates the road over the River Trystion. The battered side walls are made of snecked freestone with a pecked surface, featuring a string course and coursed freestone parapets topped with flat coping stones that have slightly chamfered angles.
The bridge has a single span that is offset towards the south, featuring a high round arch made of stone voussoirs with a drip mould. This section of the bridge is not battered. To the north, there is a narrow round-arched opening of stone voussoirs that allows a footpath to pass beneath the structure. The interior of this passage has rubble side walls and a roof made of flat stone slabs. Immediately to the north of this passage is a low flat-headed opening that once carried a mill-race. The bridge has a flat deck, and on the inner side of the east parapet, there is a marble tablet commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on August 9th, 1902, which was erected by the parishioners of Llangar.
