Description
Pont Dyffrdwy is a substantial 4-span bridge built from random stone. It features wide segmental arches made of stone voussoirs with dripstones, and has continuous rubble-stone parapets topped with large flat stone copings. Full-height triangular cut-waters are located between the arches, rising to create refuges on the narrow deck. The deck is humped at the western end, while the eastern end remains level as the ground rises. On the inside of the southern parapet, there is a stone tablet that reads 'Pont Dyffrdwy, Cynwyd, 1612 built, 1989 strengthened, Clwyd County Council'. The ends of the bridge are slightly splayed out, with a stepped abutment on the northeast side. The southwest end curves around at a right angle to follow a lane. The northwest abutment extends for some distance before rising over three low segmental flood arches made of stone voussoirs with dripstones; the parapets here become progressively lower, capped with concrete. To the east of the flood arches, there is a flight of stone steps with a metal handrail that leads down to the riverside.
