Description

Meyarth Hall is a symmetrical-fronted two-storey farmhouse dating from the early 18th century. It features three windows on its east-facing facade, rendered and painted cream, with an additional bay on the right. The main range has a slate roof with generous eaves and verge overhangs, and stone chimneys at each end. The central door is glazed and has an overlight above it. There are canted bay windows on the left and right, each with flat roofs and three sash frames. All windows, including those on the upper storey, have four panes and hornless sashes, with the upper frames concealed within the rebates. The sashes were likely replaced in the mid-19th century.

The rear wings are similarly rendered and have replaced windows. The lower-roofed wing on the southwest features a datestone inscription reading W / R : J / MDCCVI. This wing contains an oven hearth, which is accessed from a lean-to shed against the gable of the main range. The upper storey of this wing is a loft of two bays, partly partitioned, and is reached by rough steps and a plain boarded door from the farmyard. There are two windows on the south side, including one made of cast iron. The kitchen wing has been re-roofed to match the main range but retains small upper windows, one of which is also a cast iron light.

Inside, the main range has a symmetrical Regency interior with a central staircase opposite the main entrance. The main rooms have four-panel doors set in panelled reveals and boxed window shutters. The staircase is simple, with a cut string, brackets, and two-inch square balusters on each tread. The chamber joists over the kitchen in the rear wing are laid flat and feature chamfers with stepped stops.

In the additional bay to the north of the main range, the roof timbering includes some walnut, a locally abundant timber. This extension has its own stairs, and the loft is remembered as the apple loft. The house also includes a small cellar.
