Description
Fron-gelyn Barn is a 4-bay threshing barn constructed from local axe-dressed masonry and topped with a slate roof, positioned on a slope. Viewed from the farmyard to the south, the left two bays are lofted, featuring a stable or calfhouse with a door and window in the left bay. There is a small window in the second bay, which is said to have housed a chaff cutter, along with slit ventilators above and below. The third bay contains a full-height barn door, while the fourth bay has a standard three-quarter-height door.
On the left gable, there is a low lean-to built from similar materials, which has a door at the front and two tiers of slit ventilators in the gable above. The threshing engine used to be located at the rear (to the north), and there is a slit in the wall for a power drive to the barn's machinery. A modern livestock shed has since been added to this side.
Inside, the threshing floor is located in the third bay between opposing doors and is flagged. The two bays to the left feature a loft floor. The trusses have V struts and two purlins on each side, with central posts extending from the ground to the tie beam in the trusses adjacent to the threshing floor. There was previously a chaff-cutting machine in the ground section of the second bay.
