Description

Pentre-mawr is a house that has been designed with two parallel ranges extending east and west, accompanied by two short wings on the south side. It stands two storeys high, is rendered, and features hipped slate roofs. The exterior is painted in an off-white tint with white details, and there are four chimney stacks, three of which are rendered and one made of axe-dressed limestone.

The main elevations face east and north, with the east elevation serving as the front. This elevation consists of three bays, highlighted by a gabled central bay that advances forward and is adorned with a four-column Tuscan porch. The central window has twelve panes and features hornless sashes, while the flanking windows are tripartite with similar main sashes. Stone window sills and Tudor-style label moulds add to the architectural detail. The main entrance door is panelled and semi-glazed. The north elevation has four bays, including false windows in the right bay. Above, there are two tripartite windows flanked by two plain windows, and below, there are four tripartite windows, all resembling those on the front elevation. A ground storey room on the left has been extended forward under a flat roof, but retains its tripartite window.

The south and west elevations are less regularly arranged. The south side features four windows with triple arch-headed lights above, one sash window, and modern multiple pane doors and windows below. The west elevation includes a single-storey lean-to, with one sash window above and a rear door. The larger windows on the south and west sides, as well as those on the returns of the south wing, have sills and Tudor-style label moulds similar to those on the main elevation.

Inside, the house is organized around a corridor that aligns with the current main entrance, likely derived from an earlier rear passage. There is also an upstairs corridor adjacent to this. The main reception rooms are located to the north and feature Regency plasterwork and other decorative elements. Boxed shutters are present throughout the house, and the staircase at the far end of the main corridor is characterized by splat balusters.
