Description

Graig Farmhouse and its attached L-plan range of outbuildings date back to the 18th century and are constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs. The farmhouse is located at the eastern end of the range and is two-storey, double-fronted, featuring stone end stacks and a raised plinth. It has two cambered-headed triple casement windows on each floor, along with a central door that is partially blocked and has an inserted 6-pane window. All openings are adorned with stone voussoirs. The eastern end wall includes a large window on the ground floor to the right, also with stone voussoirs. The rear of the farmhouse has a triple-casement window on the first floor to the left and added lean-tos.

The outbuildings to the west have a lower roofline and enclose the northern and western sides of the yard. The current front door to the farmhouse is located at the far right of the farmyard range and features a large sandstone plaque from around 1900, displaying the name Graig, the initials DH, and the dates 1747 and 1898. The door has cut-stone voussoirs with a cambered head and late 19th-century leaded glazing. Next to the door is a broad cambered-headed cart entry with similar voussoirs. Above and to the right of this entry is an added flat dormer that breaks the eaves. To the left of the cart entry are vent loops arranged in three tiers, with four at the top level and two at each of the lower levels, flanking a cambered-headed window. Next to this is a broad coach entry with a flat lintel, which is a later addition, as the voussoirs of an original window can be seen above. On the far left are a window and a door, both with flat stone lintels. The western range, which is at right angles to the farmhouse, was originally lofted and featured four cambered-headed doors facing east, three of which have been altered to windows. The southern gable end has a door with a timber lintel and a loft light in the gable. The rear includes one door with stone voussoirs and a brick lean-to. The northern gable window, which is adjacent to the northern range, is rebated. The rear of the longer range has two doors and numerous vent loops.
