Description
Hendre Cottages is a symmetrical terrace of six two-storey cottages located in Llanelidan, built in red brick with slate-roofed porches, slate roofs, and red tile ridges. The terrace features four prominent yellow-brick chimney stacks that are fluted to resemble grouped stacks and have notable corbelling at the top.
The two central cottages are slightly set forward and have large paired gables at the front, with paired doors located beneath a single bracketed porch roof. Each gable has two-light windows centrally positioned beneath it, along with decorative brickwork at the gable heads. The other four cottages are arranged in quasi-symmetrical pairs, each with paired dormers, two-light windows below the dormers, and single-light windows on the outer sides. One cottage has a door and porch situated in the angle next to the advancing central cottages, while the other door is located in the end elevation. A mid-height brick string course runs along the entire terrace. The cottages feature timber casement windows, which vary in width from one to two lights, with smaller fixed lights above the transoms on all but those against the eaves.
Each cottage in the group has a recent two-storey rear extension for kitchens and bathrooms, built in red brick that does not quite match the original. At the center of the terrace, above the joined porches, there is a small carved monogram for Tom Naylor-Leyland, dated 1877.
