Description

Nos 1-6 Hendre Cottages in Llanelidan form a symmetrical terrace of six two-storey cottages built from red brick. They feature slate-roofed porches, slate roofs, and red tile ridges. The terrace is topped with four large yellow-brick chimney stacks that are fluted to resemble grouped stacks, with prominent corbelling at the top.

The two central cottages are slightly set forward and have large paired gables at the front, with paired doors located under a single bracketed porch roof. Each gable has two-light windows centrally positioned beneath it, and decorative brickwork adorns the heads of the gables. The other four cottages are arranged in quasi-symmetrical pairs, featuring paired dormers and two-light windows beneath the dormers, as well as single-light windows on the outer sides. One cottage has a door and porch in the angle next to the advancing central cottages, while the other door is located in the end elevation. A mid-height brick string course runs along the entire terrace. The cottages have timber casement windows, each with one or two lights in width, and all except those against the eaves have smaller fixed lights above the transoms.

Each cottage in the group has a recent two-storey rear extension for kitchens and bathrooms, which has a flat roof and is constructed from a red brick that does not quite match the original. Above the joined porches at the center of the terrace is a small carved monogram for Tom Naylor-Leyland, dated 1877.
