Description
Hendre Cottages is a symmetrical terrace of six two-storey cottages located in Llanelidan, built in red brick with slate-roofed porches and slate roofs featuring red tile ridges. The terrace is notable for its four large yellow-brick chimney stacks, which are fluted to resemble grouped stacks and have prominent corbelling at the top.
The two central cottages are slightly set forward and feature large paired gables on the front, with paired doors located under a single bracketed porch roof. Each gable has two-light windows centrally positioned beneath it, along with decorative brickwork at the gable heads. The other four cottages are arranged as quasi-symmetrical pairs, each with paired dormers, two-light windows beneath the dormers, and single-light windows on the outer sides. One door and porch are situated in the angle next to the advancing central cottages, while the other is located on the end elevation. A mid-height brick string course runs along the entire terrace. The cottages have timber casement windows, which vary in width from one to two lights, with smaller fixed lights above transoms on all but those against the eaves.
All the cottages have two-storey rear extensions for kitchens and bathrooms, which are flat-roofed and constructed in a red brick that does not quite match the original. Above the joined porches at the centre of the terrace is a small carved monogram for Tom Naylor-Leyland, dated 1877.
