Description
Hendre Cottages is a symmetrical terrace of six two-storey cottages located in Llanelidan, built in red brick with slate-roofed porches, slate roofs, and red tile ridges. The terrace features four prominent yellow-brick chimney stacks that are fluted to resemble grouped stacks and have notable corbelling at the top.
The central pair of cottages is slightly set forward and showcases large paired gables at the front, with paired doors situated under a single bracketed porch roof. Each gable has two-light windows centrally located beneath it, along with decorative brickwork at the gable heads. The other four cottages are arranged in quasi-symmetrical pairs, each with paired dormers and two-light windows beneath the dormers, while single-light windows are positioned on the outer sides. One cottage has a door and porch in the angle next to the advancing central cottages, while another door is located in the end elevation. The entire terrace features a mid-height string course made of brick. The timber casement windows vary in width, with one or two lights, and all except those against the eaves have smaller fixed lights above the transoms.
All the cottages have two-storey rear extensions for kitchens and bathrooms, which are flat-roofed and constructed of red brick that does not quite match the original. Above the joined porches at the centre, there is a small carved monogram for Tom Naylor-Leyland, dated 1877.
