Description
Hendre Bach is a terrace of six cottages located in Llanelidan, built in local slatey stone with some random limestone mixed in. While number 1 and other parts may be older buildings that have been refurbished, the entire terrace represents a cohesive late 19th-century design for farm and estate workers' cottages.
Numbers 6 and 5 on the left are a symmetrical pair, while numbers 4 and 3 form an unequal pair with a lower roof level and paired central doorways. Number 2 is a double-fronted cottage featuring two dormers, and number 1 is a larger cottage set at right angles, showcasing a hipped gable at the front and a three-window elevation that presents a more distinguished appearance towards Nantclwyd.
The quoins and reveals of numbers 1 to 4 are made of brickwork that is integrated with the stonework, and the sills and lintels of all six cottages are crafted from limestone with a pecked finish. The roofs are covered with slate and have red tile ridges, while the chimneys are made of yellow brick with decorative red brick features. The barge-boards and eaves fascia of numbers 5 and 6 are wave-moulded.
The front elevation windows consist of nine panes with unequal sashes. The north-facing windows of number 1 are large pairs of lattice-glazed casements, with the upper casements located within dormers. The doors are boarded.
