Description

St. Asaph V.P. School is a Tudor-style, asymmetrical single-storey building with four bays, dating from the 19th century. At the left end, it incorporates a two-storey, two-window house with an advanced gable bay, which is balanced by a broader gable end of the school hall on the right. The exterior is constructed of snecked hammer-dressed rubble with freestone dressings, including quoins, gable parapets, and around window and door openings, as well as a plinth. The roofs are slate with stone chimney stacks and cappings, featuring cross roofs over the gable-ended bays. There is a blocked attic in the left gable and a punched trefoil above a three-light hall window on the right gable, complete with apex finials. The central bay has a four-light square-headed window, flanked by a pointed arch entrance with half-glazed doors. The gabled bay of the house has bipartite windows, while similar tripartite windows are set back to the left.

The left gable end features random coursed rubble with a sash window above the entrance. A parallel range set back extends to the left, maintaining similar detailing but with a modern window. The rear elevation is mixed, with a steeper slate roof and small pane sash windows in the house. The right side gable end has a hall window similar to that on the front.

The front of the building retains Gothic traceried iron railings and a gate on a low rubble wall. Inside, the school features arched braced trusses in the four-bay hall, which is ceiled at collar level. Diagonally set trusses span the two central bays, with a small pane glazed partition in the middle and a carved bracket corbel.
