Description
The Cowshed and Calfshed Ranges around the Midden at Garthgynan are three structures located to the south, west, and north of a sunken midden, with the eastern side open to the farm track. The southern and northern ranges are constructed from local limestone, while the western range is built of brick. All have synthetic slate roofs.
The cowshed on the south side features three openings with heck doors and four windows, three of which seem to have originally been doorways. The calfshed on the north side includes a lower section that was initially a shelter shed, which has four large front openings where doors and low walls have been added. Additionally, there are two more sheds with doors and barred windows to the east, creating a rear wing of the granary building. The later brickwork range on the west side has a heck door and two windows.
The central midden is a sunken area surrounded by a low retaining wall on the south, east, and west sides, with part of the wall featuring coping.
