Description

Armstrong Towers is a two-storey, three-window symmetrical house built in an unusual picturesque Gothic style. The house was constructed at an unknown date, likely in the 19th century. The exterior is painted roughcast with a plinth and painted pilasters on the ends. It has a slate roof and cement-rendered chimney stacks, with an eaves band. The windows are broad, small-pane sashes set in acutely pointed openings. The upper sashes on the first floor feature diamond glazing and kite-shaped tracery, with the same design applied to the fanlights above the ground floor windows. A sixteen-pane sash sits over a gabled porch with a glazed door in the centre. A low, flat-roofed extension is attached to the left. The rear elevation has three windows and includes flat-roofed dormers, nine-pane sashes on the first floor, and ground floor splayed bays with a porch. The interior features inserted ceiling beams in the hall and a simple 19th-century staircase, but lacks Gothic detailing.
