Description
The Pentrefelin Aqueduct, built over a raised embankment, features rubble stonework and includes a short semi-circular tunnel that allows the River Eglwyseg to flow through to join the River Dee to the south. The tunnel is constructed with flush regular ashlar voussoirs, highlighted by a prominent keystone that rises to a horizontal string course. Above this, the faced stonework extends approximately 2 meters to the level of the canal towpath, where another square string course serves as the base for the orthostatic parapet along the towpath. The embankment is curved in plan, flanked by slight end pilasters, and continues for an additional 35 meters on either side before tapering into the embankment. The northern face of the aqueduct and the cut for the canal were rebuilt around 1990.
