Description
The Leyland Arms Public House is a two-storey building with a three-window front elevation, designed in the Tudor-Gothic style. It is constructed from local rubble, featuring a plinth, rock-faced quoins, and wave-moulded bargeboards. The roof is slate, with boarded eaves and stone chimney stacks set diagonally in groups of three at each end, plus a single stack in the center.
The front is notable for its symmetrical three gables, which showcase diamond-paned iron-framed casement windows. The window surrounds echo the rock-faced detail of the quoins. The outer bays are slightly set forward and contain two-light windows on the first floor within large gables, while the ground floor features three-light windows. The central bay has a single-light window beneath a smaller gable, positioned above the porch. The front also displays two panels: the Leyland coat of arms on the left and the name of the public house on the right.
A prominent feature is the porch, which includes large kneelers adorned with river pebbles, and the keystone is inscribed with 'R Leyland Esq. AD 1844'. The porch has tall, thin flanking lights and a pointed, chamfered arched entrance with a boarded door.
The left gable end is blank, while the right end is roughcast and has one diamond-paned window above two horned 16-pane sash windows. The rear elevation has three 16-pane sash windows and a central gabled bay that projects outwards.
Inside, the building retains its original panelled doors and a staircase with shaped tread ends.
