Description

Pentref Methodist Chapel and School-room, including the adjoining Manse, is a group of buildings constructed from limestone, featuring squared stone elevations and fine limestone dressings, topped with slate roofs. The chapel is set back on the right side and has a three-bay symmetrical facade with an open pediment and a central ocular vent. It includes a single-storey porch with a classical, moulded arched entrance and recessed 16-panel double doors, which are fielded. The porch has a moulded cornice and a flat roof with a raised parapet at the center. The flanking bays have 12-pane recessed windows with marginal glazing and projecting sills. The gallery floor features three arched windows, with the central one being larger, all adorned with dressed and moulded voussoirs that spring from moulded abaci, and the glazing matches that of the flanking bays.

To the left of the chapel, the schoolroom block is advanced and has a symmetrical gabled facade of three bays, complete with a stone-coped gable parapet. It features sash windows with marginal glazing on two floors, with the upper floor windows being arched and the central ones larger.

Adjacent to the schoolroom block on the left, slightly recessed, is the manse. The manse has a gable with moulded bargeboards and a large brick chimney with moulded upper courses. It features a west entrance on the left with a 6-panel door and a rectangular overlight. To the right, there are two paired sash windows, and a round-arched sash window is located on the first floor. There is a modern extension at the rear. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
