Description
Garden Cottage at Pengwern Hall is a house dating from the 18th century. It features a short east-west main range with hipped symmetrical wings to the north and south. The east gable of the main range serves as the front, facing a small garden, while the west side looks out onto the approach drive to Pengwern Hall. The building is constructed of red brick with freestone dressings and has slate roofs.
The front elevation has the gable of the main two-storey range protruding, flanked by single-storey wings on either side. The prominent section features a Palladian window above, with a similar Palladian door and window grouping below. The upper window's side cornices are integrated into the pediment, while the lower window's cornices are part of a string course. Each wing contains one large round-headed window with rusticated jambs and arches that spring from the same string course. The cornice of the side wings extends around the advancing section. There is a modern semi-glazed door with an overlight.
At the rear, the cornice of the wings continues across the main gable end, which has a pediment above and a later chimney. The upper storey contains two windows, while the lower storey shows altered fenestration, including a brick string course with a small window above three blocked openings, one open window, two altered windows, and one altered door position. There are single windows in the end walls of the wings.
