Description

Hall Place is a house dating from the mid-16th century to early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It features a mix of timber framing, which is encased in gault brick, and additional gault brickwork. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has various ridge stacks, a parapet, and coped gables. The main structure includes a cross wing, with the western part significantly altered. The house has two storeys and a total of five windows. The windows feature gauged brick flat arches, with a combination of 3/6 sashes and 6/6 sashes. The east and west wings also have tripartite windows, with the west wing projecting further and including additional 3/6 sashes.

The entrance is marked by a moulded wooden doorcase with fluted Doric pilasters that support an entablature and an open pediment. The doorway is architraved and contains a six-panel door. The garden front showcases 19th-century two-storey canted bays, additional sashes, and a part-glazed door set within a doorway that has pilasters supporting an entablature.

Inside, the entrance hall features a late 18th-century to early 19th-century stick baluster staircase and some raised and fielded panelling. Throughout the house, there are various four- and six-panel doors with HL hinges, as well as 19th-century marble fireplaces. Evidence of timber framing can be seen in the south wall. The roof of the main range includes collars, clasped purlins, and a ridge piece that is pegged under the rafters. In the roof of the east wing, a framed gable is visible, along with remnants of an earlier roof that may predate the main range's roof.
