Description

This early 18th-century garden wall, along with its piers and gate, originally fronted Hall Place, a building that was demolished around 1770. The wall is constructed of red brick and has a plinth and weathered coping along the top. A doorway is located at the north end, within the curtilage of numbers 19, The Vicarage, and 29A. This entrance features a curved, recessed bay, framed by piers with stone bases and caps, topped with stone coping, and a wooden, architraved doorway flanked by brick piers with ball finials. At the former main entrance, also within the curtilage of number 19, stone gate piers have moulded caps. A good wrought iron gate with side panels is present. A further garden entrance at the south end, within the curtilage of The Vicarage and number 29A, features segmental arched gateways with keystones. The garden wall, piers, and gate of Hall Place, along with The Vicarage and Coach House in Vicarage Garden, are considered to form a group of buildings of group value.
