Description

19 Chapel Street is part of a curving terrace of five cottages, built in the mid-19th century with a brick facade over an earlier limestone rubble core. The cottages feature a continuous steeply-pitched slate roof, with plain brick central chimneys and a flush gable chimney on the left side. The terrace includes a central, double-fronted unit (No. 19) flanked by one-window pairs on each side, with the end units having outer entrances. The larger central unit has a slightly convex front that follows the curve of the lane. Both this unit and No. 23 on the far right retain their unhorned 12-pane sash windows on both floors. No. 23 also features two original 12-pane sashes and two 9-pane sashes on the first and ground floors of its gable end. Nos 15 and 17 have later 19th-century plain sash windows, while No. 21 has 20th-century steel-framed casements. All ground floor windows have cambered heads and projecting stone sills. The doors are six-panel, except for No. 17, which has a modern part-glazed door, and there are plain segmental overlights above. There is a rear cross-wing that is flush with the gable end of No. 23. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
